Wednesday's Word With: Lama

Lama, of Florida, is a stay at home mom with four children, ages 2-8. She also homeschools two of her children. Lama's husband works full time outside the home. When her husband is home, he divides the parenting duties and roles with Lama.

Busymom: Please introduce yourself.

Lama: My name is Lama. I am a stay at home mom with four children. I homeschool my oldest two children. The youngest two children join their older siblings when it is time for homeschooling because they love to pretend they are big and go to school.

Busymom: How do you manage to have time for yourself since the children are with you everyday?

Lama: We have a routine or a schedule. I write down our schedule on a big poster board for the children and myself to read and follow. I have a personal day planner where I record appointments, deadlines and reminders. The children are expected to help update the family calendar as well with their own tasks and projects.

Busymom: How long do is a homeschooling day?

Lama: It ranges between six to seven hours per day. I give them a lot of hands-on learning, so it goes by quickly. Often once in awhile, we will go past six to seven hours. After that, the older children will keep the younger children occupied while have about five to 10 minutes of "Me Time." Then I will supervise as I cook and complete last minute tasks. When my husband comes home, he will usually play or read a story with the children, allowing me to have one or two hours by myself.

Busymom: What do you do with the one or two hours?

Lama: I will read a book in my bedroom and light a candle or two, or take a nice hot bath or shower using my favorite gels and moisturizers.

Busymom: What kind of advice would you like to give to other busy moms?

Lama: It is hard for women to accept help from others because they may not do it the we like. That needs to change because by us doing many things, we are taking precious time from ourselves. Don't be afraid to delegate.

Lama relies on organization skills to help run her home smoothly. Great products to help strengthen the organizational skills would be MomAgenda or The Kitchen Folio. She also uses candles, bath gels and moisturizers to help relax and prep her for what to come. You can find top quality bath gels and moisturizers at http://www.allizon.com/.

Wednesday's Word With: Tiffany

Tiffany along with her husband, of Nebraska, has six children--four boys and two step-daughters. "We are a blended family, meaning two different families living and making a life together." Although her husband works full-time, Tiffany works part-time at their local bookstore, leaving the youngest two with a babysitter twice per week.
Busymom: Please introduce yourself.

Tiffany: I am Tiffany, a mother to four boys and two girls. Their ages range between two years of age through 12 years of age. It is an interesting household! Each child has a unique personality and are interested in different things despite being raised together.

Busymom: Do people ask you questions about being a large, blended family?

Tiffany: Friends and family asked us many questions, such as how we handle parenting and other familial issues. Our children are treated the same by my husband and me. We don't differ in parenting or treatment. We stand united.

Busymom: Besides raising and taking care of your children, you also work part time at a bookstore. How do you manage tasks at home and taking care of yourself?

Tiffany: I use a day planner to record events, appointments and projects of everyone's because I need to know what everyone needs and has to determine if I could multi-task, etc. The older children help with chores and errands, even the youngest children have to pick up their own toys. The children know that I have a right to "Me Time" which is at least five minutes to myself. During that time, I may use a moisturizer or indulge in yummy chocolate, something to spoil myself for a few minutes.

Busymom: Your time allows you to feel refreshed even after a few minutes. It is also nice to have older children help you in some ways. Do you have advice you would like to give to mothers?

Tiffany: If you have older children, make sure you get some "Me Time." You will feel more relaxed when you return back to your children.

To keep track of your busy schedule use a day planner like MomAgenda. Allizon.com has a variety of lotions and moisturizers to offer a busy mom. And for the chocolate lovers, there is a basket of chocolates called For My Chocoholics. Go to http://www.allizon.com/ for more information on a variety of products.

Tuesday's Specials: Olive Oil Soaps

Washing dishes or using water constantly during winter does not help much with the skin. The cold weather typically is harsh to skin, causing dryness and irritation. Sometimes lotions and cremes may not be enough, but changing what kind of soap you use may be. Besides cold weather, sometimes certain products containing chemicals may cause dry or irritating skin.

Studies show Olive Oil has many advantages when using on the skin. Ancient civilizations have used Olive Oil for many health-related reasons. The same goes for today. It helps smooth and moisturizes the skin--taking the dryness and irritation away! So why not use Olive Oil Soaps?

Found at Allizon.com, Olive Oil Soaps are moisturizing soaps with luxurious lather that feels like silk on your skin. Hand-wrapped in beautiful artisan hand crafted papers, Olive Oil Soaps come in many different scents such as Lavender, Rose and Lemongrass.

Go to http://www.allizon.com/, for more information on Olive Oil Soaps.

Monday's Spotlight: Booster seat question

Question: My child has transitioned from a car seat to a booster seat recently. We did not realize that there is no support for a child when seated in the booster seat. Is there a type of support that can be used with a booster seat? If so, does Allizon.com carry that product?

Answer: Allizon.com carries a product called Toddler Coddler, recommended for ages 12 months to four years because children must be able to ride in a forward-facing car or booster seat. Recommended by chiropractors for healthy spinal alignment, Toddler Coddler® provides head, neck and lateral support without attaching to the seat. Once you use a Toddler Coddler, you will never look at a booster seat the same. More information on the Toddler Coddler can be at http://www.allizon.com/, where many products can be found to help busy mom.

Wednesday's Word With: Nelly

Nelly, of Wisconsin, has three children, two girls and one boy. She currently works three days per week at a local bank.

Busymom: Please introduce yourself.

Nelly: Happily married to my husband of six years, we have two girls, ages 3 months old and 18 months old, and one boy who is five. I work part-time at a local bank. My husband works at a local factory. I am currently on maternity leave, however I will be returning back to work in the next couple of weeks.

Busymom: Wow. Your hands are certainly full! Do you even find time to take care of yourself?

Nelly: Certain things I have to let go for now, until my daughters become a little older. My husband works full time. My mom and sisters do come and help when they get off of work and school. My son is in kindergarten. When the girls are sleeping, I sleep too. I try to find as many short cuts to household chores and errands when possible. I still hang on to my day planner.

Busymom: Yes, day planners are life savers. Many people use day planners for all their activities. So, do you have any simple ways of taking time for yourself?

Nelly: I make sure I eat healthy because I nurse and have more energy that way. I play classical music in the background when I want to calm my girls down. I do use an eye pillow when I am sleeping filled with relaxing scents. Sleep is my biggest "me" time--I take it whenever I can!

Busymom: What kind of advice would you like to give to mothers, especially mothers with newborns?

Nelly: Take any help you can get until things become a little easier for you. Don't worry if it is not "done your way." Also, sleep when the baby is sleeping! That helps me.

Since Nelly has a new addition to their family, taking time for herself does not occur very frequently. However, she does use a day planner and an eye pillow, which can be found at http://www.allizon.com/. As Nelly had stated, if people offer to help out--take it.

Wednesday's Word With: Jean

A mother to an only child, Jean of Iowa, works at a local community college as a technology instructor. "Many people think that because I have only one child I am not as busy as other mothers," says Jean. "When a parent becomes a parent, they are busy until their children become adults or even forever!"

Busymom: Please introduce yourself.

Jean: I am Jean, a mother to a lovely six year old girl. I teach part-time at my local community college, and the rest of my day I spend helping at my daughter's school as a volunteer.

Busymom: How is it to raise an only child?

Jean: I am able to give my child more attention and opportunities than I could have if I had more children. Although my daughter is an only child, I did put her in preschool when she was three years old because I wanted her to be used to other children her age. So I have always found social activities for her to do.

Busymom: You seem active yourself. What are some things that you are involved with?

Jean: Well, I am a part time college instructor teaching anywhere between two or three classes per semester, plus am on a couple committees. After I finish teaching, I head on to my daughter's school and help out in the library or classroom, wherever I am needed until school is out. I take my daughter home. We both prepare dinner for her daddy and us. That is a good experience for her.

Busymom: So when do you have time for yourself?

Jean (laughs): Well it depends when my husband gets home from working in his office. If he is home early, he is able to spend time or take over some of my responsibilities at home, allowing me to have some me time; otherwise, I wait till my daughter goes to bed.

Busymom: How do you pamper or take care of yourself?

Jean: I light candles when I am relaxed with a book or sitting in a bubble bath. When I do take a short nap, I use an eye mask or an eye pillow to put over my eyes. Not only does this relax my eyes, but it helps me sleep quicker. And of course, like many moms, I use moisturizers. Those are definitely life savers for the skin!

Busymom: What advice would you like to give other moms?

Jean: No matter how many children you have, parents are parents. So, it's best not to judge parents, until you have at least walked in their shoes.

Using simple techniques like Jean, often allows a mom to feel refreshed without feeling guilty of taking care of herself. Allizon.com carries candles, eye pillows and moisturizers. Visit http://www.allizon.com/.
