Busymom: How do you manage to have time for yourself since the children are with you everyday? Lama: We have a routine or a schedule. I write down our schedule on a big poster board for the children and myself to read and follow. I have a personal day planner where I record appointments, deadlines and reminders. The children are expected to help update the family calendar as well with their own tasks and projects. Busymom: How long do is a homeschooling day? Lama: It ranges between six to seven hours per day. I give them a lot of hands-on learning, so it goes by quickly. Often once in awhile, we will go past six to seven hours. After that, the older children will keep the younger children occupied while have about five to 10 minutes of "Me Time." Then I will supervise as I cook and complete last minute tasks. When my husband comes home, he will usually play or read a story with the children, allowing me to have one or two hours by myself. Busymom: What do you do with the one or two hours? Lama: I will read a book in my bedroom and light a candle or two, or take a nice hot bath or shower using my favorite gels and moisturizers. Busymom: What kind of advice would you like to give to other busy moms? Lama: It is hard for women to accept help from others because they may not do it the we like. That needs to change because by us doing many things, we are taking precious time from ourselves. Don't be afraid to delegate.

Each child has a unique personality and are interested in different things despite being raised together. Busymom: Do people ask you questions about being a large, blended family? Tiffany: Friends and family asked us many questions, such as how we handle parenting and other familial issues. Our children are treated the same by my husband and me. We don't differ in parenting or treatment. We stand united. Busymom: Besides raising and taking care of your children, you also work part time at a bookstore. How do you manage tasks at home and taking care of yourself? Tiffany: I use a day planner to record events, appointments and projects of everyone's because I need to know what everyone needs and has to determine if I could multi-task, etc. The older children help with chores and errands, even the youngest children have to pick up their own toys. The children know that I have a right to "Me Time" which is at least five minutes to myself. During that time, I may use a moisturizer or indulge in yummy chocolate, something to spoil myself for a few minutes. Busymom: Your time allows you to feel refreshed even after a few minutes. It is also nice to have older children help you in some ways. Do you have advice you would like to give to mothers? Tiffany: If you have older children, make sure you get some "Me Time." You will feel more relaxed when you return back to your children.

A mother to an only child, Jean of Iowa, works at a local community college as a technology instructor. "Many people think that because I have only one child I am not as busy as other mothers," says Jean. "When a parent becomes a parent, they are busy until their children become adults or even forever!" Busymom: Please introduce yourself. Jean: I am Jean, a mother to a lovely six year old girl. I teach part-time at my local community college, and the rest of my day I spend helping at my daughter's school as a volunteer. Busymom: How is it to raise an only child? Jean: I am able to give my child more attention and opportunities than I could have if I had more children. Although my daughter is an only child, I did put her in preschool when she was three years old because I wanted her to be used to other children her age. So I have always found social activities for her to do. Busymom: You seem active yourself. What are some things that you are involved with? Jean: Well, I am a part time college instructor teaching anywhere between two or three classes per semester, plus am on a couple committees. After I finish teaching, I head on to my daughter's school and help out in the library or classroom, wherever I am needed until school is out. I take my daughter home. We both prepare dinner for her daddy and us. That is a good experience for her. Busymom: So when do you have time for yourself? Jean (laughs): Well it depends when my husband gets home from working in his office. If he is home early, he is able to spend time or take over some of my responsibilities at home, allowing me to have some me time; otherwise, I wait till my daughter goes to bed. Busymom: How do you pamper or take care of yourself? Jean: I light candles when I am relaxed with a book or sitting in a bubble bath. When I do take a short nap, I use an eye mask or an eye pillow to put over my eyes. Not only does this relax my eyes, but it helps me sleep quicker. And of course, like many moms, I use moisturizers. Those are definitely life savers for the skin! Busymom: What advice would you like to give other moms? Jean: No matter how many children you have, parents are parents. So, it's best not to judge parents, until you have at least walked in their shoes.
